One of the most important collaboration between ASIPP and IRFM, has been the manufacturing of 3 ELM resilient ICRH antenna for the WEST project.
Each antenna is designed to work at 3 MW / 30 sec and 1 MW continuous.
This collaboration started in September 2013. A dedicated team has been established, gathering ASIPP and IRFM staff, managed by Qingxi YANG on ASIPP side and Patrick MOLLARD on IRFM side.
The complexity of such component (as it is water cooled everywhere) was the challenge, and has largely increased the manufacturing processes. More than 2800 parts have been fabricated during the course of the project.
A key milestone was the celebration of the end of the blank assembly for the first antenna in April 2016. A great ceremony was organized in Hefei.
After shipping to Cadarache IRFM mechanical team performed the final assembly of the first and second antenna
Today two antennas are installed in the WEST Tokamak and will be commissioned soon. The third antenna will be installed for the next campaign.
The collaboration will continue during the experimental phase.
