报告人简介:John G Weisend II教授现任欧洲散裂源(ESS)加速器部副主任,瑞典隆德大学兼职教授,美国低温学会(CSA)主席,国际低温工程协会(ICEC)主席。WEISEND教授曾先后在SSC实验室、德国电子同步加速器实验室(DESY)、斯坦福直线加速器实验室(SLAC)、美国国家科学基金委和密歇根州立大学等机构工作,主要研究方向是大型超导加速器及其低温系统。其累积发表80余篇技术论文、编著了包括《Cryostat Design:Case Studies, Principles and Engineering》及《Cryogenic Two-Phase Flow: Applications to Large Scale Systems》等在内的5本专著。
报告内容:The European Spallation Source(ESS) is a new neutron science facility nearing completion in Lund, Sweden. Once in full operation, it will be the world's most powerful neutron source enabling transformative research in materials science, chemistry, biology and other fields. Cryogenics plays an important role in the ESS design: cooling superconducting RF cavities in the accelerator, creating the 20 K hydrogen moderator and providing for superconducting magnets and liquid helium environments in the neutron instruments. This talk reviews the current status of the ESS and goes into detail on the nearly completed cryogenic system. The extensive use of in-kind contributions in the construction of ESS is also described.
