报告题目:Neutron measurements and their role in the development of fusion as an energy source

  报告人:Prof. Giuseppe Gorini

  主持人:钟国强

  报告时间:8月30日 13:30~14:30

  报告地点:4号楼-五楼中间会议室

报告人简介:G. Gorini is full professor of experimental physics and director of the physics department at Milano-Bicocca University. GG has created a new research line combining R&D in neutron and gamma-ray spectroscopy instrumentation for plasma and material science. The instrumentation is developed for fusion plasma facilities (mainly JET) and neutron sources (especially ISIS, the spallation neutron source in UK) in collaboration with other EU teams. GG is also engaged in international collaborations with the ITER fusion research establishment, the Ioffe Institute in St Petersburg and, since 2011, with Peking University. The scientific production by GG is documented in more than 250 journal papers.

报告内容: Neutron spectroscopy has since played the role of assessing the success of fusion experiments. Dedicated neutron measurement techniques were developed over the decades, with the JET experiment (1983-2023) being a major contributor to such developments. In the new DT fusion experiments under construction (ITER, SPARC etc) the so called Q-value is the ultimate measure of success. In this seminar I will make the case for neutron spectroscopy as the key tool for assessing and controlling the performance of fusion reactors from the early days of fusion research to the future power plants for electricity production. I will also present some recent results towards the development of reactor-grade spectroscopy instrumentation.
